About This Show

Liz Franzel at the KLTT studio talks with Sheri Few, Founder and President of USPIE (U.S. Parents Involved in Education). USPIE is a nationwide coalition that seeks to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children's education by helping parents and local communities escape federal and other national influences. With March being Women's History Month, Sheri Few touches on title IX, men in women's sports, and all the other atrocities we're seeing take place in education.

In her documentary film, April Few, a young mother of two, embarked on an eye-opening exploration of the current state of American government schools and made some alarming discoveries regarding agendas kept hidden from the eyes of both students and parents like her. Through a series of interviews with educational experts, she explores the following questions:

- Are public schools forming a wedge between parents and children?

- Are children being trained to become political activists for the political left?

- What is the true aim of so-called comprehensive sexuality education?

- How much transgender influence is there in government schools?

- How is Critical Race Theory indoctrinating American children?

- Is there a federal education scheme to control the nation’s workforce?

April meets the authors of several books that guided her journey of discovery and gave her a newfound mission—to educate parents of school-aged children about the indoctrination taking place in government schools.

Dan Flanscha - Money Day

Mike Triem and Dan Flanscha talk about the misconceptions surrounding financial planning, where people tend to fall into habits of relying on only 2 or 3 ways to fund retirement. Dan talks about the need to have flexibility and 10 to 11 ways that help you later in life when you near or enter retirement. Dan also talks about how small changes today can lead later to big blessings in terms of flexibility and not being beholden to the stock market.  The Denver native is a respected member of the financial community in Colorado, and strives to help people gain their own financial independence.

He very much believes in tailoring a plan to fit the individual household or business situation.

Today Dan is one of roughly 5,000 practitioners across the U.S. who utilize a macroeconomic process to help individuals organize, coordinate and shape personal finances. He does this through his own business – Longs Peak Financial.

Dan serves as adjunct professor for CPE4U Colorado (formerly part of the University of Denver). He teaches classes on retirement income planning, Social Security, tax strategies, macro-economic principles, business strategies and insurance.

Dan holds CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU) designations. Who’s Dan?

Dan and his wife, Janelle, live west of Berthoud. They have been married for over 30 years. Janelle, a Colorado native, teaches in two home school enrichment programs and is music director at their church.

They have four boys: Jesse, Lucas, Stephen and Benjamin. Jesse is a mechanical engineer. Lucas is married and is an army infantry officer. Stephen owns a photography business called Differential Imagery which specializes in automotive photography. Benjamin is in the Wyoming National guard and is in college.

Dan grew up in the Midwest and has always had an interest in agriculture. In high school he was active in FFA (Future Farmers of America) and is a State Farmer Award recipient. This led to a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in Agri-culture Education. Immediately following graduation, Dan spent a summer in Alaska fishing commercially and working on the Point McKinsey Dairy Project.

After returning to Iowa, he entered the financial services industry where he has re-mained ever since. In 2006, the family elected to move back to Colorado where Dan wanted to start his own business.

Dan enjoys working with his hands, doing woodworking, metal work, automotive work and construction. He also enjoys snow skiing, motorcycling and family activities. He has also, in one way or another, always been active in leadership in their church.

Virtually every day Dan spends some time reading a book, an article, or research material which covers a topic in the financial industry. He does this to stay current, to understand what is developing, and to determine how he can use what he learns to assist the people he has been entrusted to serve either through advice or his teaching responsibilities.

Every year Dan also participates in more formal educational opportunities through a variety of sources in order to glean different perspectives. In some cases this is to stay current with the professional designations and licenses he holds, and in other cases it applies to additional industry qualifications.

Liz talks with Al Goff, President of “Unto.” They will re-cap their Wait2Hydrate challenge and what we can do to change the water crisis in other countries.

Did you know that in developing countries, it can take people up to 2 hours to have their first sip of water? To highlight this issue on World Water Day, March 22nd, hundreds of compassionate Americans will wait 2 hours after waking up before taking their first drink. By participating in Unto’s Wait2Hydrate challenge, we can collectively experience a fraction of the struggle faced by those in need of clean water and work together to change this harsh reality.

Al and Susan Goff give leadership to Unto, the humanitarian ministry of Cru. Unto exists to express the kindness of Jesus through humanitarian assistance for people living in the toughest places on Earth by relieving suffering, restoring dignity, and revealing the hope found only in Jesus Christ. Unto works in countries in great distress due to war, natural disaster, famine and drought which are in need of critical aid, clean water, and food.

Susan and Al served together in France with Cru for 12 years before moving to Texas to lead Unto. They worked out of Geneva, Switzerland to help start Cru's first humanitarian efforts in more than forty countries.

Mike Triem and Alan Davis talk about a new program called a Solar Power Purchase Agreement, that incentivizes homeowners to adopt solar for their electricity needs. The program helps people who do not need or cannot use a tax credit, and it allows them to fund a solar power system through a third-party entity that fronts the costs of the solar installation. It helps the homeowner and the plan is to make more homes less reliant on the electrical grid. Alan provided options and answered some of the most common questions.

  • Solar energy produces no greenhouse gas emissions, helping to reduce the carbon footprint of a home and combat climate change.

  • The average residential solar system can offset the equivalent of 100,000 pounds of CO2 emissions over its lifetime.

  • According to the Department of Energy, solar panels can reduce water consumption by power plants by more than 80%.

  • According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the widespread adoption of solar energy could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 27%.

  • Solar panels can help to reduce the urban heat island effect by absorbing sunlight instead of reflecting it back into the environment.

  • Solar panels can help to preserve natural habitats by reducing the need for land-intensive energy sources like coal and natural gas.

  • According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, solar panels can add an average of $15,000 to the value of a home.

  • Solar panels can protect homeowners from rising energy costs and provide a stable, predictable source of electricity.

  • Solar panels require minimal maintenance and have no fuel costs, resulting in significant cost savings over time.

  • A study by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that homes with solar panels sell faster and at a higher price than homes without solar panels.

  • Solar panels can help homeowners avoid costly power outages during extreme weather events.

Testimonials for Level Engineering and Alan Davis

(84 solar panels) I felt fortunate to work with Alan Davis of Level Engineering to do our solar. We found Level Engineering on the Rush to Reason show on 560KLT. The crew was very professional and swept up every night before they left the site. I am very conscious of quality electrical work and the electrical work was very clean and high quality — some of the best I have seen. We enjoyed the fact that our Project Manager was a Civil Engineer and our one point of contact. We had never planned to get solar but we had a need for a tax credit and that came out to be more than 50% of the investment in the system. Level Engineering has a simple way to monitor system performance which we check along with the installer and can see any issues with our system.

Mike and Carrie - CO

I met Alan on John Rush’s show called Rush to Reason. Alan Davis and Level Engineering really put in the extra effort to make sure our solar and backup power system was done correctly. I felt very fortunate to have worked with them. Now I have no power bill and peace of mind that when my power goes out I have backup power. We are in a remote location in Lake George Colorado and have a need for continuous power that is independent of the grid.

John Hartelt - Lake George,CO

We were fortunate to have met Alan Davis from Level Engineering. Due to our Decra roof type we had repeatedly been unsuccessful in finding installers capable of working on our roof and were beginning to think that installing solar would be impossible without making significant (and unwanted) changes to our roof. We had solar on our past home and were very interested in getting it again. We ended up using The Solar Wave and we were very pleased with the overall experience. The approval and installation process went smoothly – the system has already produced significant energy savings and we expect a large tax credit as well. We could not be happier with the entire experience.

Kris & Suzy - Golden, CO

My family had a system installed by The Solar Wave with Level Engineering working as the project manager (PM). I liked the overall arrangement since I was able to contact the PM with my questions, as my single point of contact, and he was responsive. During the project I got a report every two weeks and was able to determine the exact progress and time to completion. Our project involved installing both batteries and a generator for backup power.

When an upgraded system became available it would have been easy for the PM to not get involved with the upgrade and finish easier but the PM elected to get that for us as it would be highly beneficial and a substantial upgrade.

The upgrade created a wrinkle with delivery time uncertain. The project ended up being very challenging. The system is on and charging the batteries while powering the house to some extent. One thing I love that’s rarely mentioned and we confirmed during testing yesterday is the batteries give you a UPS, uninterrupted power supply so no clocks, computers to reset etc. or power surges.

It’s really nice to have a state of the art system that mitigates our power bill and has backup power in the event of weather, solar flares or cyber-attacks to the grid that causes an interruption to our power supply. There is great pride of ownership and we are excited to have such a high-quality system.

Counseling Culture

What are you looking for? Where will you find it? You get to the work site and you look around for it, and no matter what you do to get motivated there’s something missing. You look in the break room, not there. You look in the conference room, but there’s someone else using it. You drop by a colleague’s office, and you look in social media- everyone is busy.

Stop.

Rewind, and restart your day.

The alarm goes off. You make it to the bathroom, you go to the kitchen, you make coffee and you watch the morning news or you even read the Wall Street Journal. You get your keys, you check the weather, you get the umbrella, and you pack a lunch. You start the car, you drive to work, and you look around… You say “Good morning!” to Jason at the front desk, you get in the elevator and press the 12th Floor. The door opens. You head to your office, and there he is. God is already at work! And he’s waiting for you. You have plans- and He directs your steps with some raw materials he has already provided. Soul Work, Finding God in your entrepreneurial pursuits.

Liz talks with Debbie Wuthnow, President and CEO of iVoterGuide. iVoterGuide is the resource Christians can count on to sort through the chaos and misinformation to find the facts on who will best represent them and their values. iVoterGuide provides accurate, up-to-date information on thousands of candidates nationwide.

Debbie Wuthnow – BIO Debbie Wuthnow is the President of iVoterGuide and a member of the Board of Directors. Wuthnow holds a master’s degree in Computer Science from Princeton University and was a Systems Engineer at AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Debbie grew up in a Christian home in Springfield, Missouri. Her debate partner at Kickapoo High School led her to Christ where she ‘walked the aisle’ at a Baptist Revival at the age of 16. However, not until her first semester at Princeton (when she met her future husband) did she learn what following Christ really means. She then rededicated her life and was baptized. Since then, Bible study and discipleship have been the anchor and foundation to her life.

Very active in Community Bible Study (CBS) for over 20 years, Debbie served in leadership and on the “servant’s team,” first in St. Louis, then in Chicago and Austin. The first bible study she did was Henry Blackaby’s Experiencing God, which had a huge impact on her life. Through that study, she learned to watch for God at work and join him in that work. She also learned that God speaks not just through His word and prayer, but also through other people and circumstances. She has followed His leading through her education, marriage, engineering career, motherhood, and into her current leadership position at iVoterGuide.

After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR) in 1985, she was hired by AT&T Bell Laboratories and placed in the One Year On Campus program, through which she received her Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Princeton University in 1987. During her time at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Debbie served as a Systems Engineer in Holmdel, NJ and as a Technical Consultant on the AT&T Regional Marketing Team for Southwestern Bell. In these roles she worked defining protocols for Integrated Services Data Network’s Basic Rate Interface (ISDN-BRI), representing AT&T at the international standards’ bodies, and as project lead demonstrating the first microcellular tower. In 1992, Debbie’s lifelong dream was achieved when she became a mother. As a stay-at-home mom of three, Debbie also served in many volunteer positions including: director of vacation Bible school, decade-long coordinator of the student ministry’s Labor of Love Craft show, and Coordinator, Treasurer, Children’s leader, and music leader for Northwest Austin Community Bible Study (CBS). She also undertook projects for the PTA, band boosters, gymnastics team boosters, and swim team boosters.

Praying for God’s leading during her “empty nest” period, Debbie was connected to iVoterGuide in 2011 through her CBS Teaching Director. God had much in store for her – and for iVoterGuide. Debbie began as a data analyst, supporting the Chief Technical Officer in website maintenance, but before long was learning database programming to download and process campaign finance data and other critical information. In 2014, she was named Director of Operations. She became Executive Director and became a member of the Board of Directors in 2016. In 2018, she was named President of iVoterGuide.

Debbie joined the Pinnacle Forum Board of Directors in 2021. She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Mark, and is the mother of three grown children. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, sewing, reading, and playing handbells.

Athletes in Action's Corwin Anthony

Mike Triem talks to Corwin Anthony about his time as an athlete at UCLA and in the NFL & Corwin’s role with Athletes in Action.  They talk about how athletes can stay focused on God and keep their identity rooted in their faith while competing in their sport of choice, and and the essential guidance and counsel that Athletes in Action uses to equip believers to minster to others on campus and on their team.  Corwin opens up about some previous Athletes in Action events, like a Super Bowl breakfast and All-star breakfasts as well as some that are upcoming such as a Keys to Life Breakfast at Final Four weekend.  They discuss how essential that is for Christ-following athletes in situations with temptation and oppotunities to question their faith.

They then talk about what YOU can do to get involved in Athletes in Action to help other athletes to stay focused on what's important.

ABOUT CORWIN ANTHONY

Corwin was a preseason, All Pac-10 tight end for UCLA in the late 1980's and graduated with an economics degree in 1991. He had a brief stint in the NFL with the LA Rams, NY Jets and Green Bay Packers. In 1996 Corwin joined the staff of Promise Keepers in Denver, CO. While there he served in the Field Ministry Division for 4 years, helping churches build and strengthen their men’s ministries. In 2000 Corwin and his wife, Kim, joined the staff of Athletes in Action to serve as chaplain for the Miami Dolphins. Corwin was also invited to serve full-time as the National Director of Pro Ministries for Athletes in Action. He now oversees the AIA chaplaincy positions within the NFL and serves on the AIA executive leadership team. He and his wife Kim currently reside in Centerville, OH with their two sons, Khari and Caleb.

OUR MISSION

Brokenness exists in every area of life, including sport. But we believe there is a remedy to the brokenness of the world in the gospel of Jesus.

Athletes experience brokenness both personally and as part of sport-culture. They also have unmatched influence in their communities and around the globe.

Since 1966, we have been helping athletes experience the hope and purpose that comes from following Jesus, and equipping them to use their platform to be part of God’s mission in the world to make disciples of all nations.

By serving, training, and sending athletes as influencers into the world, we are building spiritual movements everywhere through the platform of sport so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus.
