Today, Pastor Jack teaches that the people of Israel are the most persecuted, the most hated, and the most segregated people on earth, and yet, they are the most envied.
The post Politics And Your Faith: Why Israel Matters – B first appeared on Pastor Jack Hibbs.
Liz talks with Timothy Plan's Art Ally, Founder and President of Timothy Plan, the nation’s leading biblically based, pro-life, pro-family mutual fund group that uses stringent moral screening criteria designed to avoid investing shareholders’ money in any company that has a pattern of contributing to the cultural pollution of society. They discuss why it’s a good idea to invest in Israel despite the anti-Israel rhetoric.
Today, Pastor Jack teaches us that our Christian influence throughout history cannot be ignored. Our Biblical worldview speaks to our culture in various ways, and voting is one important way to voice our influence for good.

In this episode of the National Crawford Roundtable Podcast, the guys discuss the issues we are told will have the greatest impact on the 2024 Presidential election, including open borders, the Economy/Inflation/Cost of Living/Debt/Taxes, Abortion/IVF and the Harris or Trump "Threat to Democracy" argument. They'll also talk about media bias and lies, the anti-Trump propaganda, Parental Rights, Religious Freedom, Government Overreach, the weaponization of Federal Government agencies against political foes, and Wokeism.
On today’s edition of Family Talk, Gary Bauer concludes his critical discussion with the Hon. Michele Bachmann about the necessity of having a biblical basis on which to determine the answer to the question, How should I vote? They make the point that no presidential candidate is perfect, and we may not always like their personalities, but according to Michele, We do need to go behind the curtain and determine what policies that person is going to stand for. Matthew 10:16 says, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Welcome everyone to Family Talk. It's a ministry of the james Dobson Family Institute supported by listeners just like you. I'm Dr. james Dobson, and I'm thrilled that you've joined us.
Well, welcome back to Family Talk. I'm Roger Marsh. You know, we are truly living in some unprecedented times here in America.
And amidst the chaos, you may find yourself praying for the Lord to do a fresh work in our country. Well, perhaps now is the greatest time to pray. And in just a moment, we're going to hear part two of a powerful and informative conversation.
Today, Gary Bauer is joined once again by the honorable Michele Bachmann. They'll be discussing the state of our nation and why it is crucial for every Christian who is eligible to vote to register, pray and vote and then share with others why it is so crucial to let our voices be heard as we stand up for biblical values in the public square. Now, before we begin today's program, this reminder, there are still a few spaces left for our exclusive online screening event of the powerful documentary film called Letter to the American Church based on Eric Metaxas' book featuring that same title.
This online event takes place tomorrow night, Thursday, September 26th at 630 p.m. Mountain time. And in addition to watching this remarkable film in community, you'll also hear from the Honorable Michele Bachmann as well as the two Christian filmmakers who were compelled to make this documentary. Now, the event is free, but you must sign up today to take part.
Go to drjamesdobson.org/americanchurch to sign up. That's drjamesdobson.org/americanchurch and you can be registered. And now, let's join Gary Bauer and his guest, Michele Bachmann once again, as they discuss how voting in this year's presidential election will help to protect biblical values that's starting right now here on Family Talk.
Well, welcome to Family Talk, my friends. It's great to have you back with us. Michele Bachmann and I had a great conversation yesterday, and she has been gracious enough to come back today so that we can deal with a lot of the other issues that you as a Christian citizen are gonna want to examine and make decisions about as we approach that important election day.
Michele, thank you so much for being back with us today.
Thank you, Gary. I look forward to it.
You know, I guess we ought to just start out right at the top because as I recall, president Trump actually visited a crisis pregnancy center at one point.
yes.
Which was, I believe, something that had never happened before. But I remember just a few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to see a video again that reminded me that Vice president Kamala Harris went to minnesota, I believe, to Minneapolis, and visited an abortion clinic. And the governor that she ended up picking as her running mate was also at the abortion clinic.
And they stood there at this clinic dedicated to destroying the lives of innocent unborn children. And they hailed the workers at the clinic as American heroes.
They did. And Tim Walz also just in this last legislative session, he defunded every pro-life crisis pregnancy center in minnesota. Planned Parenthood gets a billion dollars a year across the nation.
Minimum. A billion. And so you have these little small crisis pregnancy centers that are trying to offer an alternative of life to women in a pregnancy.
And we used to give them minimal grants in minnesota. Tim Walz got rid of every one of them. So you can't have a more extreme ticket than Harris-Walls.
Because it's not just us saying it. The rating agencies that rate US. Senators, rated Kamala Harris the most liberal senator in the US.
Senate. More liberal than Bernie Sanders. That is very difficult to reach that ranking.
The number one most liberal senator in the US. Senate. That's Kamala Harris.
But Tim Walz is the number one most liberal governor in America. So you've got the most radical, extreme, culture of death presidential ticket we've ever seen. And then you've got president Trump, who is on the other side.
And he has proven when he was president, his pro-life credentials by the judges that he appointed. And those judges in turn rightly overturned Roe versus Wade and sent the abortion issue back to the states, where each of the states now are grappling with it. And it gives each one of us an opportunity to weigh in and contend for the unborn in our own states.
Well, you know, those judges, Michele, did something else too. I've had some legal eagle Christian experts tell me that, thank God this is true, that the current Supreme Court is the strongest religious liberty court that we've had in decades. And again, just like on the life issue, the issue of religious liberty is incredibly important to Christians in America.
And because of his three court appointments, we're winning religious liberty cases at the Supreme Court by six to three votes. And that's important because we've got folks in office, including the current administration, that are attacking religious liberty in multiple different ways, trying to force Christians to participate in things that violate our conscience.
We are seeing right now a global call for denial of free speech. Free speech goes hand in hand with religious liberty. these are people who only want one voice heard.
The culture of death voice. They don't want biblical worldview. And if you've got Harris' walls, you've got an anti-religious liberty world for people of faith.
And let me tell you, it wouldn't take more than 10 minutes if they're elected for them to begin putting all of this in place. They didn't waste any time when Joe Biden and Harris came into office to shut down pro-life avenues and to shut down religious liberty and freedom of speech. And it won't take 10 minutes more if Harris and Walls get in as the next administration.
You know, Governor Walls gave an interview not too long back when he said, the freedom of speech isn't guaranteed. It doesn't apply when it's misinformation or hate speech. And Michele, sadly, because of the lack of good constitutional law being taught in our schools, a lot of people go, oh, well, yeah, the freedom of speech can't include hate speech.
Well, wait a minute. Of course, we're not haters. Christians aren't haters.
But if you say the freedom of speech doesn't include hate speech, somebody then in government has to decide what hate is. And we know from recent experience that if you say, oh, I don't know, the border ought to be secured. Oh, you hate immigrants.
That's hate speech. So we can't allow these people to play with words and seduce us, particularly Christian voters, into thinking that there's something wrong with free speech and we have to have government regulate it. That is the path to a disaster and the loss of our liberty.
Well, the founders gave us one of the most precious documents every American should know about and every American should fight for. It's called the Bill of Rights because the United states government, the whole concept was to limit government, give government the least amount of power, just barely enough so they can do their job, and then give the rest of the power to us as individuals. As individuals and as churches and businesses, we should have maximum power.
Instead, that's been inverted on its head, but the Bill of Rights, the very first right is freedom of religion and freedom to exercise a religion, freedom to have a voice, freedom to write and print. That includes going on the Internet. And so this is something that government can't even touch.
The Bill of Rights is something that belongs to every one of our listeners, Gary. It belongs to you, me. It was given to us as a gift.
It's a birthright.
It's a birthright. Government can't take it away from us. And yet you've got Harris and Walls who are cavalier about this, who say, oh, you don't agree with me?
Well, too bad. Only my opinion is going to be heard. People don't realize, Gary, how far down the road we have gone in America under Biden and Harris to have our religious freedom and our freedom of speech curbed.
And let me tell you, if they get in, it will be so restricted, we may not even recognize our way of life and we may have a very difficult time even communicating to each other because of all the avenues of communication that would be shut down, because they're being shut down already. Gary, you and I could do a whole show just on this issue, and it's that important. But for now, before the election, people need to understand there couldn't be a greater compare and contrast between the Trump Vance Ticket and the Walls Harris Ticket on this issue of religious freedom and freedom of speech.
This is a gift that God gives to us. And again, we're not trying to be partisan. We're not trying to be political.
We're saying that in this instance, in the natural, there are two completely different parties that hold completely different views. One of the views is biblical, and one of them isn't. And that's where we need to be wise as serpents, harmless as doves.
Not screaming at people that we disagree with, not shutting down people that we disagree with. But we need to be wise. And the most important way we can be wise right now is to have knowledge and register to vote and go into the voting booth and vote according to what the Bible says.
You know Michele, one of the issues that I think some Christians struggle with because the left has come up with arguments, including some of the progressives in the church itself have embraced arguments that use the Bible to essentially support the notion of open borders. And this is a big difference between the two candidates. Our listeners will remember that Donald Trump ran on the idea of build a wall to secure our borders.
And he was subjected to unbelievable hatred because he wanted to do what every country tries to do, which is secure your borders. And one of the things we will hear said many, many times is that jesus loves migrants. jesus loves immigrants.
Well, jesus loves everybody. jesus loves taxpayers too. And I don't think there's a Biblical case that you can make that says that it's a Christian thing to bring millions of people into your country that you haven't been able to vet, knowing that among them are going to be some criminals, gang members, drug dealers, and then set those individuals that have come in by the millions, many of them probably decent people, but nonetheless, and those people then end up victimizing Americans of all races.
What is the correct Christian view on this issue? Because I think it's the position that Donald Trump has.
Well, it is the position Donald Trump has, and we need to know that in both the New testament and in the Old, the Bible talks about the boundaries of nations and that God has placed a people group into the boundaries of the nations and the parameters of a nation are very important to God. He said that he sets those boundaries. So it's unlawful to violate those boundaries.
Do people cross borders? yes, they do. But nations are allowed to set up laws and rules.
You know, it is so shocking, Gary. Donald Trump was trying to build a wall. He had one of the lowest rates of illegal immigrants getting into the United states.
By contrast, under Biden and Harris, now reports are upwards of 20 million illegal aliens. Many criminals, maybe criminal gangs, many people who are mentally ill, certainly impoverished, have come into the United states. What society will countenance this evil?
There is no moral imperative for us to allow this. In fact, it's just the opposite. The moral imperative is to protect the innocent who are here.
So we have to have a strong border. And of the two candidates, there is no comparison. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will continue the open border that will bankrupt our country.
And I will say the most expensive endeavor any nation can engage in is war. The second most expensive endeavor any nation can engage in is immigration, illegal immigration. It is costing our nation hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars that we will never get back again and it's destroying neighborhoods, destroying the schools and the social service systems.
Donald Trump by contrast will build the wall. He will begin the deportation of these dangerous criminals who get them out of the United states. And that issue alone should let people know what the future holds because with all of these dangerous immigrants, not all, but many are dangerous and even if they are not dangerous, they have no legal right to be in the United states.
No legal right. Where is Tim Walz on this issue? The vice presidential candidate on the Democrat ticket.
He voted here in minnesota and he passed a law to give free college to every illegal immigrant in minnesota. minnesota kids don't get that. He's giving that to illegal aliens.
He's giving free school and he's giving free college and he's giving free healthcare and free driver's license and illegal aliens are registering to vote now in minnesota and he's not stopping that. So this is where Walz and Harris are coming from. They want illegal aliens to replace us because the illegal aliens who are coming in are almost all impoverished.
They are going on government welfare programs and they know that people who are on those programs will tend to continue to vote for them and for that funding. But I will tell you, it's bankrupting the United states and causing inflation to skyrocket. Those are issues in the natural, but God speaks to each one of these issues.
You know, Michele, the research in all this is clear. When we say the kind of things that you just said, they'll accuse us again of hate speech or you're misleading people, immigrants that actually have lower crime rates than native-born Americans. The fact of the matter is that research just came out of New York City, where 75% of the crime that was happening in the center of Manhattan was being committed by migrants that had been brought in by the Biden administration.
There's another thing here about the compassion issue.
That's right. And Gary, if I could just say, by definition, every illegal immigrant in the United states is a criminal.
Exactly.
They walked into the United states intentionally, knowing exactly what they were doing. And they're coming here because they want to take. My forbearers came from Norway back in the 1850s.
But they had to sell everything they had in Norway and come and live a hard scrabble life and save and build up. There was no public support of any kind. And there were some people who just couldn't hack it.
So they had to leave and go back to Norway. They couldn't hack it in the United states. But everything has changed now.
What doesn't work in the United states is when we combine open borders with the most extravagantly generous welfare state in the history of mankind. That leads to bankruptcy in very short order. And that tanks an entire nation.
Why would we tank an entire nation for unbiblical values? We have the power to put in office people who are gonna enforce Biblical standards. We have to bring our vote to bear this fall.
There's no question about it, Michele. And what we've been trying to do these last two days is to convict the hearts of our listeners that they are called to be Christian citizens. They were blessed by God when they were born in America or were able to legally come to America.
There's all sorts of places in the world that they could have been brought into the world in, but God wasn't surprised that they were born or came to America. This is a country with tremendous freedom, built on the idea of ordered liberty under God. So we were given a tremendous gift by God when we were permitted to be a citizen of this country.
And unless we're going to be in grades, we have an obligation to take care of that gift, to preserve that gift. If we don't, we will have betrayed our founding fathers and every previous generation that sacrificed for us. And we will have condemned our own children and grandchildren to lesser, less free lives.
And people can just look around, look around your city. Did you build it? There were people who came before you, and they gave to you by building up the greatness of your city.
What about your church? Did you build it? Did other people who came before build that church?
And Gary, what you said is so spot on. We're just a link on a chain here. Are we going to build up for this next generation?
Or are we going to tear down for the next generation? That's really what's at stake right now. Are we going to build up or are we going to tear down?
And this is our moment to exercise our Christian leadership to change the world. And it is really that consequential. It may sound melodramatic.
I don't mean to. But I think Gary and I have both been involved in this world for decades. And we know the heart of Dr. james Dobson and Shirley Dobson.
Shirley has spent years on her knees praying for this nation. Dr. Dobson couldn't have given more to contend for children and for this next generation. And so I think that's why both of us are passionate about this today, Gary, because what happens in the voting booth this fall will determine so much.
And so this is that moment.
Well, Michele, we know we have to vote. Hopefully, anybody in doubt after hearing us will do the right thing and be part of this great debate about what kind of country this is going to be. But we also always, if we're going to be discerning, we always have to pray and we always have to ask for God's wisdom as we make these challenging decisions as free men and women, at least still right now, free men and women.
So could you close us out praying for our audience and for Christians in America to rise to this occasion?
yes, oh Lord, we are instructed to pray in John 17. You say, oh Father, I wish they would be one, even as you and I are one. Lord, our nation is so divided, but yet your word calls for unity.
Father, I pray that we would be united as the body of Christ, as we seek to share the Gospel and to see more come to Christ and share salvation. I pray, oh God, that you would cause your people to come together in unity for the sake of those yet unborn, for the sake of our children and grandchildren, for the sake of this present moment, for the sake of the Jewish people and of Israel. Oh Lord, God Almighty, give us the wisdom, remove our vanity from this vote.
And instead, Father, place before us, as you say in your word, I place before you life and death. And God, you say to us, you urge us to choose life. So I pray, oh God, for those who are considering their vote this fall, I pray that you speak to them now, that they must vote, and that you speak to everyone, that we must vote for life.
So I thank you for this opportunity, and I pray for the needs of every person listening today, that you would hear and you would answer the needs of everyone listening to us today. I pray this in jesus' name, amen.
Amen. Michele, thank you so much for being with us over these last couple of days. This has been, I think, two of the most important shows that we will have in this year of decision.
Let's continue, to all of you out there listening, to continue to fight for faith, family and freedom, to stand with Dr. Dobson and the james Dobson Family Institute, to work, to pray, to vote, so that this great shining city on a hill can be a nation that God will want to bless for many, many more years in the future. Thank you, Michele, and God bless you.
Well, the best way for us as believers to help others understand how biblical values truly are at the heart of America's foundation is to vote. And today here on Family Talk, we've been challenged as well as encouraged by hearing the second half of a powerful two-part conversation featuring Gary Bauer and Michele Bachmann discussing how Christians who choose not to vote in the 2024 election really aren't stewarding their citizenship very well. By the way, you will find a literal treasure trove of election-related resource material when you go to our special website drjamesdobson.org/countdown to decision 2024.
Once you're there, you'll find special voter guides specifically designed for all 10 of these swing states in this year's election cycle. You'll also discover a whole slew of video resources from reels all the way up to full-length interviews while you're there as well. This has been a presentation of the Dr. james Dobson Family Institute.
With the presidential election rapidly approaching on November 5th, you may find yourself wondering how you should vote, or if you should vote? Today on Family Talk, Gary Bauer discusses this topic in detail with the Hon. Michele Bachmann. She explains, There is no area in life where the Bible doesn’t have some measure of application. So wouldn’t it be foolish not to apply the Bible when going into the voting booth? She also reminds us that Psalm 33:12 says, Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. We must not remain on the sidelines. Let’s get out there and vote!

Well, hello everyone, I'm James Dobson, and you're listening to Family Talk, a listener supported ministry. In fact, thank you so much for being part of that support for James Dobson Family Institute.
Well, welcome to Family Talk, the broadcast division of the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute. I'm Roger Marsh. You know, just over 40 days from now, citizens of the United States of America will elect our 47th president.
But the actual battle for the White House began much earlier this election season as more and more Americans are opting to vote early, either by mail or in person. Now, here's the perspective. Whereas 40% of the electorate voted early during the election in 2000, just over 95% of Americans have the option for early voting during this year's campaign.
As a result, many voters will opt for convenience when casting their votes. They can easily be swayed by a compelling television commercial or social media post without really thinking through the true ramifications of how they're going to vote and the consequences thereof. The biblical values that serve as the foundation of our great nation are all on the ballot this November 5th.
And today here on Family Talk, Gary Bauer sits down with the honorable Michele Bachmann for a conversation about the urgency behind motivating every Christian who is eligible to vote to register, pray and vote. And that's why here at the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute, we've created a special website designed to help you get the tools you need to cast your vote most effectively, but then to help inform others as to why voting this year and voting biblically is the only way to save our democracy. For more information, go to drjamesdobson.org/countdown to Decision 2024.
That's drjamesdobson.org/countdowndashtwodashdecision dash 2024. And now here is Gary Bauer to further introduce today's guest, Michele Bachmann, right here on Family Talk.
Hello, friends. I'm Gary Bauer, the Senior Vice President of Public Policy here at the James Dobson Family Institute. Dr. Dobson has been a close friend for decades.
I'm honored to serve alongside of him at this important time. I'm also the host of Defending faith, Family and Freedom, the podcast here at the JDFI. If you haven't checked it out yet, I think you would enjoy it, particularly given the headlines we wake up to every morning and all the issues that Christians are trying to be discerning about.
Look, we're getting very close to November 5th, and it's probably going to be one of the most important days in modern American history. This country is in deep trouble. I think all of us know that.
Three quarters of the country say that we're headed in the wrong direction. That is in itself, I think, a real warning that something is wrong. We all know the statistics on the breakdown of the family, but we're also dealing with open borders and a migrant crime wave.
We've got foreign policy challenges and dangers all over the world. There's a real power grab going on in Washington, DC. There's a bunch of people in this city.
They get up every morning trying to figure out how they can get more power and keep that power. There's a lot of people in the country that thinks liberty comes from government, when we all know from our Bible and from our Constitution, that liberty comes from God who made us in His image. So all of these things are issues that are really in one way or another on the ballot this November 5th.
And what we want to do here at the JDFI is help you be discerning, help you be an effective Christian citizen. And there's no better way to do that than talking to our friend today, Michele Bachmann. Michele Bachmann is widely known as being one of the most effective voices for faith, family and freedom in the United States.
She's a long time friend of Dr. Dobson's and of this ministry. She's on the board of directors. She served in Congress for a number of years and was one of the few congressmen that I recall that I didn't have to worry about Michele's vote.
She always voted consistent with the way she has talked and lived her entire career. Let me mention one other one. She is the co-chair of the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast, and that opens up a whole other issue.
Michele, welcome to the broadcast today. Dr. Dobson sends his best and I know you agree with me that this is a moment of great challenge and great risk to our country.
Well Gary, I agree with you completely that this is the most consequential moment in our nation's history. We're a strong nation, a resilient nation, and yet one thing I think our listeners have observed is how quickly it seems our nation has been coming apart at the seams in a relatively short period of time, less than four years. Four years ago, at the conclusion of Donald Trump's term as President of the United States, the United States had never reached greater heights and benchmarks in the natural.
And so if the listener is asking themselves, hey, I think I was better off four years ago under Donald Trump than I am today, that's a big issue. And so we can look at the natural, but I think from Dr. Dobson's perspective and Shirley's perspective, they agree, too, that the economy and all of these issues are important. But the real heart for them, the real heartbeat, is how will candidates bring morality into the public sphere?
How will they govern? Will they be against the church or for the church? Will they protect our speech or not protect our speech?
Will they protect the unborn or not protect the unborn? How do they value children? How do they value marriage?
And how do they value Israel? All of these issues are ones that Dr. Dobson and Shirley Dobson have spent over 50 years of their lives teaching the American church and teaching people across this nation. And I know both Jim and Shirley are prayer warriors on this issue.
Yes, there's no question about it. And you have experienced this yourself over the years. I can't tell you the number of times when I've been with Dr. Dobson and he would have come into Washington to talk to members of Congress or maybe for a meeting at the White House.
And then we would go on the radio and do a broadcast about some of the issues. And we would get this feedback and we still get it today of our fellow believers who will say, yeah, but what's that got to do with being a Christian? Why are you guys getting involved in politics?
I know great Christians who will say to me, Gary, haven't you heard of the separation of church and state? It's in the Constitution. Well, my friends, it isn't in the Constitution.
In fact, it's the exact opposite. The Constitution guarantees the free exercise of religion. But Michele, share a little bit with us about why Christians need to be Christian citizens.
Almost every issue facing the country, there's a Biblical answer to those issues.
There is a Biblical answer for our good because God loves us. And I'm not meaning to condemn anyone when I say this, but it really belies a shallow view of scripture to say that the only thing that the church should talk about is the gospel and salvation. That is the central point of the church.
But when you read the Bible, the Bible has something to say about absolutely every area of life. There is no area in life where the Bible doesn't have some measure of application. So wouldn't it be foolish not to apply the Bible to going into the voting booth and to know if a candidate lines up more in line with what the Bible says or if they're actually opposed to what the Bible says?
That's ignorance and that's irresponsible. And that's why it's important for us as believers to be wise, to be wise about our vote, wise about the moment, because the way our vote works in the United States, we're unique. Not all nations in all times in history have given people the right to choose their leaders and to choose the issues that they believe in.
We're unique. America's very unique. Sometimes there were kings.
Sometimes there were dictators. There were various forms of government like oligarchies, like Russia today. But we're blessed because we get to choose.
So America is the way it is, Gary, because Christians either stayed home or they failed to apprise themselves of the candidates and the issues. And so we need to be encouraged and inspired to recognize that we can completely change our nation. We can apply Christian leadership to change America if our churches and if those who are listening right now would only register to vote and go vote and vote for the candidate.
Not necessarily that you like, you may not like their personality, but vote for the candidate whose positions are most in line with the Bible. Because the Bible says, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. And if we are implementing through our policies, Godly principles, then the people will be happier and more prosperous and will be at peace.
Michele, we're going to start in our time together, going through these issues and talking to our listeners about the biblical basis of everything from the sanctity of life, obviously, but even an issue like how we deal with our borders and who should be allowed in and who should not be allowed in and those sorts of things that are very complicated. But I want to touch again, and I know there are a lot of pastors that always listen to family talk and pastors in the colonial era would give what was called election sermons and they would talk to their congregation about the great issues facing colonial America. A lot of those sermons were about liberty and were sermons against the tyranny of the king.
They were a big deal because there wasn't any TV, radio, or internet. So not only did people hear those sermons, but those sermons were printed and they were spread all throughout the colonies. They were even noticed, particularly perhaps in Great britain itself, and they were not happy.
In fact, the British thought these sermons were dangerous and they began to refer to the pastors that were making these sermons as the Black Regiment, referring to the robe that the pastor wore when he gave the sermon. So there's wonderful historical examples of this. In fact, there was a pastor in Virginia who ripped off his garb and led his congregation out to form a unit of the Colonial Army, not far from where I'm sitting right now.
And that unit of the Colonial Army, which I believe is the 8th Virginia Brigade, is still part of the United States Army. And all of that led to America's Revolution and Freedom. Today, a lot of pastors do not give those sermons.
You mentioned before we started talking this morning that you and I both heard one recently by Gary Hamrick, who's the pastor of Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia. And tell me why you thought that that was such a powerful message. Because I wish every pastor would do the same thing today.
Well, you're right. It's a powerful message. Anyone can find it.
Just Google pastor Gary Hamrick, Leesburg, Virginia, election sermon. And you can hear it too. And share that sermon with your pastor, with other congregants, with your friends on your contact list.
It was powerful because Gary went straight to the scripture. He went through the scripture that said that we are charged with being watchmen on the wall. All of us, not just pastors.
But we are watchmen on the wall for our families, for our nations. And so when we see things happening in our midst that aren't right, that in fact are evil, then we have an obligation to speak that out and tell people because we don't want evil in our society. We want good in our society.
And Gary Hamrick was very straightforward in his message telling the people that he was being a watchman and he was going through, as Gary said, before America was even a nation, during the colonial days, how the pastors really were the leaders of society. And they spoke what the Word of God was. And then they spoke into the issues of the day.
And that is how the colonialists in America were actually inspired to stand up for their rights because they saw that the British were encroaching unlawfully, unbibically against their rights. As we understand as believers what these issues are today, and pastors don't need to be afraid, there's a lot of material out there that they can share, then we are being salt and light. That's what God calls us to do.
Whether we're pastors or just individuals, to be salt and light in our nation, that's how we're bringing godliness into our nation, by applying the Bible to relevant things in people's lives.
Folks, if you are a pastor, if you have a church and you're leading that church, or if you have a Sunday school class, or if you're doing a Bible study at home, there's still time to do the equivalent of an election sermon. And I want to be really clear about this. I know Michele agrees.
Nobody's telling you that you have to say from the pulpit, vote for so-and-so. But what I think we are called to do, if you're a Christian leader, is to explain the biblical basis of how issues should be resolved. And then you have to look at the candidates as a member of the congregation and make your own judgment about who's closest to those biblical teachings.
Gary, you're making such an excellent point. I'm sorry to break in. Gary Hamrick clarified that.
He clarified to his audience, I am not here at this pulpit to speak about politics. I'm not speaking about politics. I'm speaking about theology because I am laying out for you what the Bible says about issues and what the Bible says about a nation.
He couldn't have been more clear. He wasn't being political. He was being biblical.
And after all, isn't that what every pastor should be? This is the most relevant, consequential issue happening in America right now. This will impact every person in the United States who is elected this fall and all of the various officers who is elected.
This will impact the wars across the world. This will impact the future of the world with our children. So there is no more relevant document to apply than the Bible.
They will see that their congregants are grateful that the pastor is giving them biblical information and knowledge about how to vote.
You know, one of the things that was brought up in that sermon, Michele, was this charge that is made, this accusation that is made, not only by the radical secularists, but even among some of our fellow believers that, oh, look, we are not called to establish a theocracy in America. No one is trying to establish a theocracy in America. Nobody is trying to use the law to make Americans worship in any particular way.
And I think that the pastor brought up that there will be a theocracy someday, but it won't be because somebody was elected president. It will be because Jesus has returned, and when he returns, there will be a theocracy. Every knee will bow, even the knees at the IRS and in the deep state.
That's right, because there's been a political movement to really castigate Christians for being involved in politics. And it's this scam called Christian nationalism. It's not a real thing, and one of our professors has written a book on that, Mark David Hall, and it's imperative that we not be intimidated to vote, or register to vote, or urge others to vote, and we shouldn't be intimidated to have our pastors speak at the pulpit and ourselves speak out on these important issues.
Michele, let's get to those issues. And a lot of our fellow believers don't like one candidate or another, not based on the issues or the program of the candidate, but on the personality of the candidate. Or they don't like the way somebody talks, or they're not happy that, for example, Donald Trump doesn't regularly cite a Bible verse when he's speaking.
But when we look at the Bible, God used flawed people all the time.
That's all he had to work with for flawed people. And you and I are among them.
Well, you can sure say that again. It's nice to have righteous leaders, but righteous leaders are not required to have righteous policies. And David's a good example.
Remind people with the Biblical history there. I mean, David had a few rough edges. I think it's safe to say.
And yet he loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul and mind. And he was a very good king. He didn't do everything right as king.
certainly later, his parenting lacked, left something to be desired. And he made mistakes along the way. But he had the most important ingredient.
He did love the Lord, his God, with all his heart, mind and strength. And he was a king. It was a very different form of government.
Here, what we're seeing is there are a lot of people who don't like the personality. As you mentioned, of Donald Trump, they think he's snarky. They just don't like how he tweets.
They don't like things about him. And that is understandable. We don't have to like the individual.
But we do need to go behind the curtain and see what are the policies that that person is going to stand for. We also have something that we've never had before. We have two candidates that have a proven record.
Donald Trump has a proven record of in my lifetime, and I'm getting older now, so in my lifetime, I have never seen policies better. Donald Trump actually accomplished more through his policies in four years than Ronald Reagan, probably everyone's favorite president, accomplished in eight. That's no slam against Ronald Reagan.
But what Donald Trump accomplished in four years is nothing short of miraculous. We could go through that. He blessed Israel in every possible way.
He recognized Jerusalem as the capital. He moved the US. Embassy there.
He recognized the Golan Heights as a part of Israel's land. He changed the passports so that someone could say that they were born in Jerusalem, Israel. They couldn't do that before.
And he recognized that every Jew anywhere in the world is a part of the Jewish nation and has the ability to have the protections of the Jewish nation. What he did was amazing for Israel. What he did for our economy was incredible.
I spoke about it at the top of this show, how Donald Trump had changed the economy so quick, so fast, that we had manufacturers moving back into the United States, starting new companies. And we saw complete growth. We also saw him appoint the three justices to the Supreme Court that allowed Roe vs.
Wade, the abortion decision, to be overturned.
I'm sorry to interrupt, but let's stop right there because judges, the appointment of judges, that ought to be a game changer right there. If you are a Christian trying to decide how to vote, and you don't have a perfect candidate on the ballot, Jesus is not on the ballot. If you looked at nothing other than the judges that President Trump nominated for the Supreme Court and all the lower federal courts, and then you look at the kind of judges that President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have put on the court, the difference could not be more stark.
Because one thing people need to know, because again the media didn't talk about the good things President Trump did. I'm shocked by the people who don't know the great life that we had during the four years of President Trump, but it's because the media didn't want to talk about the great things that he did. But when it came to the life issue and judges, President Trump promised and delivered, he said, every federal judge that I appoint, I'm going to appoint judges that are pro-life judges.
Now nobody ever said that before. No Republican as a candidate for president ever was willing to say that before. He not only said it, he also did it.
And so we have some great decisions now through our courts because of the work of President Trump. He was very specific about filling judgeships and to fill them with people who wanted to vote based upon the law and the Constitution, not based on political correctness and woke ideology.
Michele, this has been a fantastic conversation. The problem is, I got about ten more things I want to discuss with you. I know how busy you are, but it would mean a lot to Dr. Dobson and me and to Family Talk and our audience all over America.
If you could spare another day with us to discuss some of these additional issues, you think you could come back tomorrow and spend some time with us?

This has been a presentation of the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute.
Do you intend to vote in this critical November election, do you?
Are you registered to vote so that, unlike many others, you are a legally qualified voter?
America needs your vote, YOUR VOTE! America needs your informed vote, a vote that is educated in the issues, understands the essential workings of politics and the government, and assuming you are Christian, voting for candidates and issues with the direction and guidance of your Christian conscience.
YOU MUST VOTE!
For many Christians, they seem to find reasons not to vote. If those Christians find the candidates personality, or private life, or public image objectionable, that gives them reasons, really excuses, for non-participation, for not voting. And that, my fellow Americans and fellow Christians, is simply dead wrong. As Troy Miller, President and CEO of NRB, the National Religious Broadcasters Association:
“I urge Christians who are so inclined to pivot from personality and
take a closer look at policy.”
That is a strong message to those conservative Americans and Christian Americans that if, for example, you do not like the personality, or the private life, or the public image of Donald Trump, those are not reasons for you not to vote for Donald Trump. If in fact Trump and his party represent and will champion and defend the policies and political decisions which are consistent with your Christian values.
Dr. George Barna has produced a new survey indicating that:
“Theologically defined evangelicals (are you one?) are no more likely than
anyone else to be attentive to news about politics and government.”
That is a sad, sad indeed conclusion and I do hope that you are not one of those evangelicals who doesn’t care, isn’t involved, and doesn’t intend to vote. You and I have, so many believe, a theological duty to be involved to the extent we can in the political process and most importantly, in every meaningful election:
VOTE!
That Barna survey indicates that an estimated 7 million evangelicals, in swing states no less, did not participate or vote in the 2020 President Election. If those 7 million registered and potential voters actually did vote, the outcomes and elections of candidates up and down the ballot would have been entirely different. And that was in so-called swing states alone.
Generally, across America and in all states, the Barna survey estimates that one third, 33%, of all evangelicals did not vote or participate in the political process in 2020! One third. If there are, as many think, as many as 75 million so-called theologically defined evangelicals in America, that means according to the Barna survey that as many as:
25 MILLION EVANGELICAL AMERICANS DID NOT VOTE IN 2020!
That is a startling and frankly sickening survey conclusion and they discredit and disgrace not only the privilege of American citizenship, but to our very Lord himself! As many as 25 million registered American citizen voters in 2020, says Barna, did not even simply bother to vote. To me, and to so many others, that is just simply unbelievable, UNBELIEVABLE! That led Troy Miller to state in his article:
“WE HAVE A DUAL ISSUE OF TURNOUT (NOT VOTING) AND TUNE OUT (NOT PARTICIPATING IN OR BEING INFORMED OF THE POLITICAL PROCESS AND ITS ISSUES).”
I do hope and pray that you, if in fact you are Christian and Evangelical Christian, are not one of those 25 million. You and I have the unbelievable privilege of being citizens of the greatest country in the history of mankind. At least, it once was. We live in a country where true freedom exists, or at least it used to. We the People, all people, including Christians, all people of faith or not of faith, have freedom of religion, complete unabridged freedom of religion, and the very same total and complete freedom of speech, and press, and no government, including and especially the Federal Government, can in any way interfere with or abridge those precious, inalienable, God-given through the constitution, freedoms we enjoy, and now have begun to assume and take for granted.
We also have freedom of petition. We can say what we want, ask what we feel is right to do, complain, criticize, compliment, and express what we believe to anyone who acts as our political leader at any level of government. They are duty-bound to listen, read, understand, and respond, whether or not they do. That is our constitutional right.
Perhaps most importantly as Christians, we have the constitutional and First Amendment right to assemble. That is, to form, support, attend, and be involved in the functions of a church or any type of religious organization. No one, including and especially the Federal Government, can prevent any American from worshipping as he or she pleases in any venue as he or she may wish and the slightest abridgement of that freedom is constitutionally wrong, illegal, and cannot be tolerated.
WE, THE EVANGELICAL PEOPLE, are free, we have been given these freedoms, we can partake of them without fear of retribution and with those freedoms, those benefits, those assets, we consequently have the duty, the God-required, American citizen-required, duty to protect, defend, and to be involved in the processes (voting) which involves the protection and continuation of those freedoms. Therefore, it seems perfectly clear that we as Christians, and perhaps especially as evangelical Christians, do in fact have the:
DUTY TO VOTE.
Are you registered to vote?
Do you intend to vote?
Will you encourage others, especially other evangelicals, to vote, will you?
If you claim those freedoms as your rights, and I hope and pray you do, than as a result of those rights, you have the duty to protect those freedoms, to be informed, educated in the political process to the extent you can, and most importantly, to participate:
TO VOTE!
None of the freedoms which we enjoy as Americans exist in Russia, or North Korea, or China, or Iran, or many of the other Far Eastern countries, and socialism abounds in many Western countries which were once more democratic and those people in so many parts of the world yearn for the freedoms we enjoy and take for granted as Americans and are probably stunned to learn that so many of us simply do not care, are not engaged, and do not:
VOTE.
So many men and women the world over and in all of history died to either get or protect those freedoms and if this political-voting lethargy, which exists in so many parts of America continues, that day may soon come when the blood of freedom loving individuals, real American freedom patriots, must be shed if those freedoms are to be protected and preserved. That will sagacious vice of former and early U. S. President Thomas Jefferson. He was right, perhaps dead right. America is changing and may radically change, the loss of freedoms expedited depending upon the results of Elections 2024, especially if evangelicals do not participate, do not vote as it is estimated some 25 million did not in 2020.
Please vote my fellow Christians. Protect our constitutional freedoms for yourself, your spouse, your children, your family, your friends, and all Americans. AMERICA NEEDS YOU INVOLVED AND YOUR VOTE NOW 2024 MORE THAN EVER!
