SPEAKER 01 :
Well, hey, it’s Mike Treem with Crawford Media Group. We’re here with Pastor John Kyle. Pastor John is the voice behind Expository Truths, heard every Sunday noon on 670 KLTT. Pastor John, thanks for taking the time with us.
SPEAKER 02 :
Thank you so much for having me. It’s an honor.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, we’re honored to have you, and it’s always fun to talk with you about expository truths. Listeners that hear these interviews, sometimes they have not had the chance to listen to the radio program. So tell us a little bit about you. That’d probably be a good way to start. And then tell us about expository truths and how you got started with that.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, well, yeah, I’ve been a pastor for the last 33 years now. I’ve been at Faith Community Church here in Vacaville, California for the last 22. And let’s see, I have three wonderful daughters. I’ve been married to my wife, Tiffany, for 33 years. And I have a one-year-old granddaughter. Oh, being a grandpa is the best. What an incredible blessing. I’ve been preaching that whole time for 33 years, and about five years into my preaching ministry, I just came to the conclusion that I need to go verse by verse, book by book through the Bible, believe what it says, preach what it meant when it was written, and trust in the power of the Word of God to change people. not in my own stories, but in the power of the Word of God. And so I’ve been committed to that, and I’ve seen that power at work through preaching His Word expositionally these many years.
SPEAKER 01 :
And Pastor John, when we first started talking about expository truths coming to KLTT, that was one of the things that was really exciting for us, is to have very intentional expository teaching on the station today. We have topical teachers. We have some who are more in an expository format, if you will, for lack of a better word. But you’ve purposed to do this now for going on almost three decades, and that just made it a real honor for us to have you on the station.
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, man, it’s an honor for me. And what it really does is it takes – the pressure off of me to come up with my sermons, really. And the whole aim is just to expose the Word, preach what it meant, when it was written, dive deep into that, and then apply it in a way, a biblical, God-honoring way. And I just found that that is the most exciting thing in the world, really. It’s so powerful and exciting, and we’ve seen so many lives change because of it. So I firmly believe in expository preaching. The gospel is the power of God for salvation, and the word of God is what’s living and active and powerful, and it’s the thing that fully equips us for every good work, the word of God. So bringing that to light and exposing that as best we can is important. it’s super exciting to be able to do. It’s an honor to do that. And we’ve seen God move through that. So, yeah, it’s been wonderful.
SPEAKER 01 :
We’re talking to Pastor John Kyle. Pastor John is a senior pastor of Faith Community Church in Vacaville, California, and also a His program, Expository Truths, is heard noon, Sundays at noon, on 670 KLTT. And Pastor John, why you’re in California, when we started talking, tell listeners why Colorado was important to you, why you said yes in this case.
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, it’s really, you know, our aim isn’t to… be used to get people to come to our church. It’s really to just get the Word of God out, and I know there are great preachers in Colorado, but it’s to just get more of the Word of God out through the expository preaching and teaching of that Word, to get people exposed to that, and to help them grow in their faith. And I know that so many people, I love John MacArthur, and so many people will hear him on the radio, and then they’ll get exposed to his expository teaching, and then that will lead to further growth and learning of the Word of God. So I want to expose people to that so that they can draw closer to the Lord and grow in their faith. That’s our aim. And build the kingdom. And see souls saved. So it’s not really to grow our church here in California, but the kingdom of God. And that’s the hope and prayer.
SPEAKER 01 :
Pastor John, one of the things that we believe strongly in, and I think that you may agree with that based on your statement you just made, is God gifts each teacher, each person that is preaching messages on 670 KLTT as well as KFIA out in California and other excellent stations across the nation. There’s kind of a unique gifting, and I think we get to be blessed by how God works through you with your unique gifting, which is different than the unique gifting of other teachers on the station. Yes. listeners get the chance to say, what really resonates for me? How does God’s Word speak to me through these teachers? And for some people, that’s your program.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, and it’s definitely… I appreciate all those who are preaching the Word of God. I praise the Lord for them and for your station and what you’re doing. And if we can play… If our ministry can play a little part in that, in growing the kingdom, that’s our aim and the prayers that that will happen.
SPEAKER 01 :
That’s very cool. Thank you for that. Now, tell me, right now, as people hear this interview, maybe in the first couple of weeks of, well, probably mid-February on, about where are you with your teaching series, so that people know.
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay. Like right now on Sunday morning at our church?
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, well, on Expository Truth specifically, because they’ll want to hear that.
SPEAKER 02 :
Okay, I’m trying to remember. This just sounds really bad. Am I in Nehemiah right now? Do you know? I’m sorry.
SPEAKER 01 :
It’s a good thing for you I can edit these things.
SPEAKER 02 :
I know.
SPEAKER 01 :
Here, let me look. Jared knows all, so let me just…
SPEAKER 02 :
I know, I apologize.
SPEAKER 01 :
No, you’re good. You’re totally good. Don’t worry, my little editing friends will make sure.
SPEAKER 02 :
Perfect.
SPEAKER 01 :
Take care of that. I know. Jared just told me. Sorry, I should know, but he just told me.
SPEAKER 02 :
Not at all. It might be 1 Peter or 1 John. I’m mixed up because I’m in Nehemiah right now.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, because you’re indifferent with the church. So we’re in 1 John. which ends March 2nd, and then you’re going to Nehemiah.
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, perfect. Okay, I can segue.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, okay. So three, two, one, go for it.
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, right now I am in 1 John. Oh, I love 1 John. And we’re going to get through that incredible book here in a couple of weeks, and then we’re going to go into Nehemiah. And I preached Nehemiah at our church a few years ago, and what was really incredible about that was we saw many people get saved during that series. So I loved preaching through Nehemiah. So I’m excited to finish up 1 John and then get into an Old Testament book of Nehemiah coming up. So I hope and pray that people, listeners, will be blessed by that. I anticipate great blessings.
SPEAKER 01 :
It sounds like in talking to your staff, so Nehemiah starts, that series starts on March 9th. So those of you hearing this interview, you’ve got a chance to get into the last little bit of the current series on 1 John and then Nehemiah and be there for the whole thing. And that’s going to be about a year-long series, I know, talking to your staff and your team there. So, you know, that’s part of expository teaching is you get deep and it’s not just, well, today we’re here, tomorrow we’re over there, right?
SPEAKER 02 :
Yes. Absolutely. And what’s really great about that is that, you know, every week you know what’s coming next, but people know that we’re going to be in the next passage. But as you open it up, there’s new insights. And you’re like, people, I didn’t understand that. And now I understand that. And I didn’t understand how that would apply. But now I see how the Old Testament really applies to my life and to everyday life. It’s really exciting. So yeah, I loved preaching Nehemiah, and it really hit me myself right in the head and in the heart. So I hope that’ll be a great blessing.
SPEAKER 01 :
I think so. And Pastor John, wouldn’t you agree, it’s a lot of times people will go right to the New Testament. And again, part of the the whole beauty of expository teaching is instead of going to what’s easiest, perhaps, I know that’s maybe not the right word, most accessible, maybe another word, going to Nehemiah, really diving in, really showing its relevance, not only to the Old Testament, but to today and to New Testament teaching. That sounds awesome.
SPEAKER 02 :
Absolutely. And Right now in our church on Sunday mornings, we are in Ecclesiastes. And Ecclesiastes, I have learned so much by preaching through Ecclesiastes. We’re right in the middle right now. And our church has loved Ecclesiastes. And I just preached the sermon from chapter 7, two verses in chapter 7. But Thomas Boston wrote a book called A Crook in the Lot. And I preached that passage that that book was written from. And it was probably my favorite sermon I have ever preached from the Old Testament, you know. And so the Old Testament, it applies. All of the Word of God is powerful and inspired, right? And it applies. Yes. It’s exciting. So I love the New Testament as well, of course, but the Old is awesome, too.
SPEAKER 01 :
Personal story, we’re going through a Read the Bible in a Year program, my wife and I, and we’re in Leviticus and Numbers. She’s been looking at me saying, can you help me on what I’m supposed to get out of Leviticus and Numbers? And we have to dialogue back and forth on that and go to some commentary, Bible commentary sessions. books and, and try to wrestle with it. And that’s a good thing because it makes you think, okay, what was, what was God telling us was, what was he teaching us through this?
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah. It’s awesome. And those, those books are important and they have a great application for our lives. You might have to dig a little bit more, but, but they’re so applicable. And I know my wife, she taught the women’s Bible study through Leviticus and they loved it. So, There you go.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, it’s the same thing. When your pastor says, hey, we’re going to do Revelation, a series of Revelation, everybody are looking at each other thinking, oh, my, what is this going to be like? And we did that in our church here in Colorado, and it ended up being amazing. I just thought in the beginning, oh, this is going to be rough. It was good.
SPEAKER 02 :
Really good. Oh, go ahead. Real quickly, sorry. The Bible is so relevant, all of it so relevant to our lives. And that’s exciting. God knows what he’s doing, right?
SPEAKER 01 :
He does. He does. And even when we have preconceptions that say, this book, this passage, that doesn’t really apply to me, that over there, I’m not really sure how I take that. What does that mean? Well, that’s why we go through a teaching, and that’s why Expository Truths. has those passionate listeners, those people that, that are really blessed by what you do.
SPEAKER 02 :
Thank you. Thank you very much. It’s an honor. And I do not take this lightly, you know, handling the word of God is so important and it’s so weighty and I do not take it lightly. So I want God to be pleased, you know, and that’s my aim. And, the prayer is that he will use it for his glory.
SPEAKER 01 :
