SPEAKER 03 :
Hi, this is Jay Webb for International Gospel Hour.
SPEAKER 02 :
Welcome to our broadcast today. For over 90 years, Churches of Christ have proclaimed God’s Word through our broadcasts. Just ahead is another Bible-based lesson with Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour. Let’s begin.
SPEAKER 01 :
Well, thank you always to our J-Web and greetings to all of you. I’m so glad you’re with me today and this is a part two broadcast titled Preaching the Word. If you missed part one, it is always available on our website at internationalgospelhour.com. Scroll down and go to the daily broadcast or it may state daily podcast and you can find Preaching the Word part one. And we’re delighted that you’ve joined us. Now, very quickly, a summary of part one. As the study comes from 2 Timothy 4, 1 through 8. And we noted a characteristic of preaching the word is that it responds promptly. It’s ready in season and out of season to convince the individual of one’s sinfulness. to rebuke and let them know, and not in an unloving way, that they need to change their lives. It exhorts one to do so, and there is long-suffering or tremendous enduring patience to where one is taught and instructed. And so in our previous broadcast, we spent time looking at preaching the word responds properly, and we just began with preaching the word rebukes sharply. And we’re going to go back and begin right there in a moment. But before we do that, as always, we love to share good study material with our listeners. And friends, all that we offer here is absolutely free. And I’m going to pause for our J-Web who will share with you a free publication you can receive by email. And here’s the details. Again, our J-Web.
SPEAKER 02 :
You can subscribe to Truth, a monthly four-page publication by our friend and brother Roger Campbell. It’s available by email. Please send an email to info at internationalgospelhour.com and leave your name, your email address, and write Truth in the message blank. Again, please send an email to info at internationalgospelhour.com and leave your name, email address, and write truth in the message blank. It’s free and it’s worthy for your Bible study.
SPEAKER 01 :
And friends, we are honored to share that publication with you. Again, that is truth. And again, you can receive that with an email to info at internationalgospelhour.com. Leave your name, email address, and just write truth in the message blank. Let’s talk about the truth, the word, preaching the word. In John 17 and verse 17, Jesus said in his prayer to the Father, Sanctify them through truth. Thy word is truth. So when we’re preaching the word, we are going to preach the truth. The truth that will make man free. John 8 and verse 32. Friends, not only will preaching the word respond promptly, but it also rebukes sharply. Again, I take us back to 2 Timothy 4 verses 3 and 4. For the time will come… when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers, and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables. Friends, we need to make certain we preach the truth and stand against the error, stand against erroneous teaching that can mislead people. Paul did so in Galatians 1, 6-9 when he warned, I marvel that you are turning away so soon from him who called you into the grace of Christ to a different gospel. Now let’s pause right there of Galatians 1, verse 6. That means a different gospel will not share with us the true grace of Christ. He goes on to say, verse 7 of Galatians 1, Which is not another, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. Friends, this is where we need to make certain we have knowledge of the truth, knowledge of the word, to stand against those things that are wrong. In 2 John 9-11, whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house, nor greet him, for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds. The old King James Version refers to bidding them Godspeed, or like an encouragement to them. That should not be the case. Dear friends, might we encourage you to always put the Bible up against any religious teaching that you hear? Are such teachings as faith only saves an individual or the thousand year reign or maybe denominationalism is acceptable? Go to the church of your choice. All of these things, are they really in accordance to the word of God? We submit in light of God’s word that they are not. A reason of preaching the word is standing against the error that would come forth so truth can be evermore so clear. And friends, as I stated in the previous broadcast, Great weight is laid upon one who must humbly bring forth the gospel and make certain they are bringing forth what God would have them to bring forth from His Word. That’s why we also encourage home Bible study, that we want people to seek these things with an open mind. Last broadcast we shared with you a very special study titled, God and Man Study. How to be saved from sin. Friends, I want to offer that one again. Again, it’s free. And as our J-Web will let you know, you can also access it online. Hundreds of people have responded to the gospel of Christ through growing in their faith and repenting of their sins, confessing Christ and baptized into Christ, added to His church due to this study. It is our prayer that it will help you. I’m going to now defer to our J-Web and we’ll be back and continue our broadcast.

SPEAKER 01 :
Again, friends, from International Gospel Hour, we’re discussing preaching the Word. And we are taking our text from 2 Timothy 4, verses 1-8, where we note preaching the Word responds promptly in season and out of season, that’s verse 2, to be ready, to be instant. It also will rebuke sharply verses 3 and 4, but let’s also consider preaching the word reminds us eternally. It responds promptly, rebukes sharply, and reminds us eternally. I take us back to 2 Timothy 4, verse 1, I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom. And then verse 8, when Paul says, Finally there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only, but unto all who have loved His appearing. You know, friends, we will all be judged by the Christ and His Word. In John 12 and verse 48, Jesus said, He that rejects Me and receives not My Word, hath one that will judge him, the Word that I have spoken, the same will judge him in the last day. Therefore, friends, if we will be judged by the Christ and His Word, we need to know His Word. And indeed, we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ, as affirmed from 2 Corinthians 5 and verse 10. And the crown of life that the Apostle Paul, the crown of righteousness that he would receive, will that crown of righteousness be laid up for us? You know, the church in Smyrna, in Revelation 2 and verse 10, they were taught to be faithful unto death, and he would have for them a crown of life. And so, friends, will we be obedient to the gospel and be faithful unto him? The importance of preaching the word, it’s for our very souls, for they are its sake. And when we preach the word, the truth, and we instruct to mankind the need of the gospel, that it is the redeeming gospel that indeed will forgive us, Romans 1, 16 and 17 says, and to see how those in Corinth obeyed that gospel as affirmed in 1 Corinthians 15, 1 and 2. When we go back to Acts 18 and verse 8, they heard, believed, and were baptized. That’s the very thing we need to do, friends. We also need to repent of our sins. As Jesus commanded in Luke 13, 3, and said would be preached in all nations in His name, Luke 24, 44-47, to confess the good name of Christ, to confess our faith in Him, Romans 10, verse 10, that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God, the Father, Philippians 2, 11. When we are baptized into Christ our sins are washed away as affirmed in Acts 22 and verse 16. And based upon our faith in God when we are baptized we will be saved. Mark 16 and verse 16. We will be added to the church that we read of in the New Testament as they were on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2. And as every individual obedient to the gospel did so they were added to the church. Not a denominational body. Not voted in in any shape, form or fashion. Friends, all of this is due to preaching the word, bringing forth the commands of the Lord through the scripture. And we pray that we have done that with our study today, and that is our goal. Join us again next time, and thank you for joining me today on the International Gospel Hour. I’m Jeff Archie, and friends, keep listening.
