SPEAKER 01 :
Let’s talk about the common salvation, the salvation for all through Christ. What a study! And that’s coming up on the International Gospel Hour broadcast. Please stay right here with us.
SPEAKER 02 :
It’s time for our broadcast from the International Gospel Hour. I’m Jay Webb, and welcome to our study today as we embrace God’s Word to help us meet the challenges of today. Let’s open our Bibles and open our heart for this time of Bible study with our speaker Jeff Archie of International Gospel Hour, a broadcast of the Churches of Christ.
SPEAKER 01 :
Here’s Jeff. Well, friends, greetings to all of you, and thank you for staying with us today for our studies here from International Gospel Hour. I know a lot of you listen to us in a variety of ways. Maybe you download our broadcast and listen to us while you’re out walking or maybe doing some things around the house. Or maybe you are listening to us through your favorite radio station. We’re honored that you have joined us and we hope that our study today will be profitable for you. We always appreciate the good words of our Jay Webb. He’s got a very special study coming up he’s going to tell you about in a little bit that, like all of our studies and all of our material, it’s absolutely free. Jay will tell you more about that. Because, you see, friends, we are blessed and honored to have you as our listeners. Without listeners, there would be no International Gospel Hour. And we are, as of you listening to this broadcast, in our 91st year. That’s amazing. And to God be the glory. We appreciate your pursuit of truth. You know, Jesus in John 8, 31 and 32 taught of the importance of truth when he said, You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. So let’s open up our hearts and have a diligent search toward the truth. We’re going to return to our discussion from the book of Jude concerning salvation. We started this in a previous broadcast, so let’s once again listen to our lesson text of Jude 3 and 4. Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Now, concerning salvation, we noted previously how clear and easily understood salvation is, and we’re going to see how that works more in a moment, as well as to see the salvation that is worthy for our contending therein, contending for the faith. And its message is the only message of salvation. And we’re going to affirm that again very shortly by looking at the phrase common salvation. But for now, I want to defer to our J-Web. He’s going to take just a few seconds and tell you a little bit about International Gospel Hour social media.
SPEAKER 02 :

SPEAKER 01 :
And friends, please, it’s very simple. If you’re on Facebook, just look for International Gospel Hour. Click follow or like and see what we have there. And feel free to share that material as Jay mentioned. Now, concerning salvation, friends, it is widely common. Now, let’s recall. Jude, by inspiration, wrote to these to whom he was writing concerning our common salvation. Now, the word common there doesn’t mean something dirty or unclean, but it’s more like a commons area that is available to more than one. I remember when I was in high school, and our high school at that time had not been open very long. Probably when I went over there, it had been open about three to four years. Well, they didn’t call the lunchroom the lunchroom. They called it the commons area. Now, that’s where we ate lunch, but they would refer to it as, folks, we will have a meeting in the commons area, which means that’s a place that we would commonly use for gatherings. And so when we look at a commons area, this is a place or a salvation that is common to all. Everyone can receive the salvation. It’s clear, it’s easily understood, and it’s worthy to contend because there’s none other like it. Now what I want to do is I want to take the word common, C-O-M-M-O-N, and I want to approach this study by the use of an acrostic, where I’m going to take the word common, and every letter in the word will define the salvation of which we are speaking. For example, the letter C. Well, the common salvation has Christ in it. I mean, there is no other name given among men to be saved. Acts 4 and verse 12. It is Christ whom we wear. For in Galatians 3.27, For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. And we wear the name Christ. Christian, if you will. Christ and the name Christian. If any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but rather let him glorify God on this behalf. 1 Peter 4, 16. Even Agrippa in Acts 26 and verse 28. Almost you persuaded me to be a Christian. And so the common salvation has Christ. We cannot be saved outside of Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, the life, and no one will come unto the Father but by Christ, John 14 and verse 6. How about the letter O? The common salvation is to be obeyed with a necessary faith. Hebrews 11 and verse 6 reminds us without faith it is impossible to please God. He that comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Let’s also add John 8, 24 and John 3, 16, the necessity of faith. And following that is a heart of repentance. Jesus commanded it in Luke 13, verse 3. He commanded it to be preached beginning in Jerusalem in Luke 24, 44-47. And in Acts 2 and verse 38, when they asked, what shall we do? In verse 37, the first word out of the mouth of Peter was repent. To change the heart, to change the decision, and change the direction. There’s a mouth of confession of confessing our faith, Romans 10, 9 and 10. The confession that Jesus Christ is the Son of God that the eunuch made in Acts 8 and verse 37. And the common salvation is to be obeyed with a response to baptism. Oh friends, I know there are so many out there that will say baptism is not necessary. But friends, it was necessary in Acts 2 and verse 38 because it was part of the answer. Repent and be baptized, every one of you. It was important in Mark 16 and verse 16, for he that believes and is baptized shall be saved. And in 1 Peter 3.21, the like figure whereunto baptism does now also save us. It’s not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The letter M. The common salvation is for all mankind. Galatians 3.28 reminds us there’s neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. It is for everyone that’s walking on this earth. Number four, the other letter M, the common salvation is to be maintained. You see, we’re able to grow through our endurance in walking faithful to God, Matthew 10, 22, to be diligent, 2 Timothy 4 and verse 7, and to simply walk being faithful unto God, Revelation 2 and verse 10. The common salvation, the letter O, grants an opportunity for all. Some will take advantage of it just like Saul in Acts chapter 9 and Acts 22 and all those on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 verse 37 through verse 41. But there are some that will not accept that opportunity, such as the tragedy of Felix in Acts 24 and Agrippa in Acts 26. And finally, the letter N. The common salvation has the appeal to obey it now. 2 Corinthians 6 and verse 2 says, Now is the appointed time. Behold, now is the day of salvation. There’s no need to delay. So C-O-M-M-O Christ, obeyed, mankind, maintained, opportunity, and obey it now. What a beautiful thought. And to God be the glory. Hey friends, concerning salvation, may we help you in your salvation for Christ? May we help you to look at your salvation to see where you are now? Here is our J-Web with a very special study just for you, and it’s free, and we will mail it to you, and you can also go online as well. Here is more details from our J-Web.
